the only thing I'm questioning is:

Would it be better for me to focus on speed and strength from now to mid February?

I think your plan of training for 200s for the first meet and then sprints for the second meet has two benefits over just training sprint the entire season.

1. Training for 200s will include more endurance training and more hard yards. This should result in burning more calories, and help you drop weight early in the season.

2. Doing a second tapper will be more effective coming off of higher yardage training then it would transitioning between two similar intensity training programs.
